The methodology behind our fluorescence technology is quite simple and straightforward. The WEED-IT sensor, acting as a light source, emits light from the spray boom towards the soil and plants. Most of this light is absorbed by the plants and used for photosynthesis. In response, the chlorophyll in the living plants emits a small amount of near-infrared (NIR) light, a phenomenon known as ‘chlorophyll fluorescence.’ WEED-IT measures this emitted wavelength to distinguish living plants from dead plant matter, soil, and other substances. Additionally, plants with more chlorophyll will emit more near-infrared light, correlating with the size and number of their leaves. Read more about the power of fluorescence.
PWM stands for Pulse With Modulation. Pulse Width Modulation is a technique used to control the amount of power delivered to a device, such as a motor or LED light, by rapidly switching it on and off. The key idea is to adjust the amount of time the power is on (the pulse width) versus the time it is off. By changing this ratio, you can effectively control the power output.
Imagine flipping a light switch on and off very quickly. If the light is on more often than it is off, it will appear brighter. If it is off more often than it is on, it will appear dimmer. PWM works the same way, but at a speed so fast that you don’t see the flickering; you just see the result, like a smoothly dimmed light or a precisely controlled motor speed.
We believe PWM is an indispensable part of successful and profitable precision and spot spraying. We therefor have been relying on this technique since the beginning in 1999. Because with a constant pressure, you can keep the droplet size constant, while the PWM regulates the flow of each individual nozzle.

WEED-IT comes with four standard spray modes; spot spraying, dual spraying, full coverage and Spot-In-Crop (green-on-green). Meaning you can use our technology year-round for various spraying needs. You can broadcast spray, spot spray plants and weeds and use any desired combination of these modes. You can also simultaneously apply crop protection products and map weeds or plants.
Fluorescence technology is highly effective at detecting weeds because it relies on chlorophyll levels. WEED-IT employs sophisticated algorithms to differentiate between plants and soil based on minimal fluorescence response. Consequently, anything containing chlorophyll, regardless of size, is detected by WEED-IT sensors with up to 99% accuracy. The accuracy and reliability of this technology is not affected by shade and moisture, nor by daylight or darkness, meaning you can use our system 24/7. This is not the case with A.I. and camera techniques.
The WEED-IT fluorescence technology is also incredibly fast because it uses the speed of light to detect chlorophyll, ensuring all weeds, regardless of size, are detected instantly. Unlike systems that rely on image processing, WEED-IT doesn’t classify plants, which speeds up detection. Additionally, the system handles both weed detection and elimination using WEED-IT sensors and 100 Hz pulse width modulation (PWM) nozzles. This allows WEED-IT sensors to detect weeds as small as 1 cm² at speeds up to 25 km/h.

Spot-In-Crop is the green-on-green solution of WEED-IT. With our Spot-In-Crop mode you can detect weed in growing row crops and eliminate them effectively. Instead of A.I. and camera technique we use the Power of Fluorescence. By detecting the amount of chlorophyll, WEED-IT can distinguish the individual taller weeds and unwanted plants. It then only activates the spray nozzles located directly above those weeds.
Using WEED-IT for post emergence precision spraying comes with many benefits;
- Can be used at speeds up to 25 kph (15 mph)

WEED-IT can be retrofitted to most brands and models of sprayers.
Depending on the boom, new brackets may need to be purchased, but the WEED-IT technology itself is 100% transferable.
WEED-IT Canada also offers a turn-key aluminum boom solution with WEED-IT-ready Millennium Booms. These purpose-built booms are designed to carry the WEED-IT system, include boom warranty, require limited sprayer modifications, and can be transferred between machines, while significantly reducing installation time.
WEED-IT Canada offers a variety of plumbing options. In its standard configuration, double-stacked nozzle bodies are added at 20” to accommodate for an additional PWM system.
Application flexibility: In certain applications such as desiccation and fungicide spraying, tighter nozzle spacing combined with narrower spray angles (e.g., 60°) has shown strong results by improving spray distribution and canopy penetration compared to traditional 20″ spacing with wide-angle tips. Performance depends on crop type, canopy structure, product choice, and operating parameters.

There are no ongoing fees for customers not using the DASH system.

WEED-IT’s hardware is by itself a limited weight addition. In combination with a WEED-IT-ready Millennium boom, the extra weight is accounted for. When retrofitting WEED-IT to an existing sprayer, customer needs to be aware that boom warranty might be voided. WEED-IT Canada will assess booms prior to a sale for suitability.
WEED-IT’s height compensation kit automatically adjusts the rate based on the boom height in each section, helping ensure weeds are not missed.
With WEED-IT’s adjustable margins, you can quickly and easily adjust spray timing to compensate for windy conditions.
Any nozzle can be used with WEED-IT, but we do have recommendations based on your desired rates.
This heavily depends on your spray mode. When spot-spraying, actual rates depend largely on field conditions such as weed density and spread, and user settings. Generally, we recommend adding a tank level system such as Simon’s Innovations’ AccuVolume to keep track of your actual flow rate, so that the operator roughly knows after 20 acres how much he will apply on average. This knowledge can be used for future refills throughout the day.
WEED-IT is calibrated once at the time of installation by your WEED-IT representative. Calibration is straightforward and is usually finished and field-proven in a matter of hours.
WEED-IT is a proven green-on-brown precision spraying system used in Canada across pre-seed, pre-harvest, and post-harvest spray windows to deliver strong ROI, accuracy, and effective weed control.
WEED-IT Spot-in-Crop (SiC) is a new and evolving capability being introduced cautiously in row and specialty crops such as corn, soybeans, and pulses. In suitable conditions, SiC may be used after crop emergence to target patches of larger weeds and volunteer plants.
Performance depends on crop type, growth stage, weed pressure, and field conditions, and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Not necessarily. Reapplication depends on factors such as weed pressure, emergence timing, and growing conditions, and can vary by field and year.
WEED-IT’s Dual Spray Mode allows a broadcast application combined with targeted spraying of detected weeds, reducing risk of missed seedlings, support resistance management, and maintain efficacy while lowering overall chemical use.
If later weed flushes occur, follow-up applications can be made selectively, rather than across the entire field.
